Zorgvliet Group launches exclusive, five-star Zorgvliet Private Residence Club with niche offerings: Dinkweng Safari Camp

Zorgvliet Group, a family enterprise headed up by CEO Mac van der Merwe, was initiated in 2002 with the purchase of Zorgvliet Wine Estate in the Banghoek Valley, in the heart of the Cape Winelands near Stellenbosch. The historic farm with its stately manor (now completely restored to a restaurant), award-winning wines and five-star Vineyard Lodge & Spa, dates back to 1692. Next to join the ranks of the Zorgvliet Group’s portfolio, in 2003, were Ka’Ingo Private Reserve and the luxurious Riviera on Vaal Hotel, with Riviera Country Club added in May 2005. The Zorgvliet Group also owns majority shares in Garden Route hotel the King George, and acquired the Sure Zorgvliet Travel Agency in 2004. A dedicated hospitality arm, MV Hospitality, has been established to focus on service excellence at the different destinations.

The Zorgvliet Group has now decided to introduce a mixed-use element at all of its destinations. Its properties have been repositioned, establishing unique usage or ownership options at each. Says Van der Merwe: “After wide-ranging research, a decision was made to set up the Zorgvliet Private Residence Club. This is a vehicle for 4 weeks per year fractional ownership based on real rights of ownership (in perpetuity) to the investor; there is also a model with personal usage rights linked to a pre-arranged time frame, where clients acquire a yearly allocation of 2 weeks for a 3- or 5-year period.”

The introduction of the Zorgvliet Private Residence Club coincides with the launch of the Dinkweng Safari Camp fractional ownership model. Dinkweng forms part of the Ka’Ingo Private Reserve, but is fenced outside the big five environment, creating a family-friendly entity. “Dinkweng Safari Camp is a wildlife sanctuary in the Waterberg Biosphere; a wide variety of indigenous game can be viewed on the property, including giraffe, kudu, zebra and many more. This is a secluded bush resort where only 21 lodges will be constructed (9 already being complete). The spacious three-bedroom (all en suite) units are furnished in line with five-star bushveld ambience. All have breathtaking views over the scenic Waterberg Mountains and valleys. Owning a share in this prestigious, family-friendly bushveld resort at a fraction of the price of a lodge is now a reality.”

The launch of the Zorgvliet Private Residence Club brings with it an introductory offer of 4 weeks per year permanent share ownership in a  lodge at Dinkweng Safari Camp from R420 000. The roster agreement allows for a week per quarter on a yearly rotation basis. The annual levy includes all elements of maintenance and support (e.g. electricity, insurance, thatching, wood deck treatment, interior and pool cleaning, refurnishing provision, replacement of linen, reserve management, communal area and infrastructure maintenance.

The self-catering style is supported by examples of bush cuisine dishes from the Ka’Ingo chefs, with venison available year-round from the on-site convenience store. Each lodge has its own swimming pool, bonfire pit, braai facilities, fully equipped kitchen, open-plan lounge and dining room, flat screen TV and DVD player.

Exclusive 24-hour meet and greet staff at the main gate ensure seamless transfer to your lodge. A daily hospitality service agreement is in place with MV Hospitality. Daily services includes maid/cleaning, lodge laundry and pool and deck tidiness. .

Amenities include use of the communal area with swimming pool, leisure deck, shop, TV and bar lounge, and business centre. Other offerings include a tennis court, Zorgvliet Spa, training and exercise area, jungle gym for the kids and rental of self-drive Polaris game-viewer vehicle.

Van der Merwe says his vision is to establish five-star leisure experiences based on diverse South African hospitality offerings. “The Dinkweng Safari Camp fractional ownership model measures up to our brand promise of special experiences for special people. The benefits of membership are very special indeed Experiences on the Dinkweng Safari Camp are family-orientated and vary from adventurous mountain hikes to bird watching and leisure game viewing. Hunting excursions and special bushveld excursions such as elephant rides can be arranged on neighbouring hunting farms for Zorgvliet Private Residence Club members. Members can also access Big Five game drives on the Ka’Ingo main reserve at special rates, and other Ka’Ingo experiences such as visits to the cultural rock art sites and conservation projects. Zorgvliet Private Residence Club members can also make use of the landing strip and facilities on Ka’Ingo. Transportation is available from the landing strip to Dinkweng.”

Additional benefits are the fact that global exchange options are available through the association between Zorgvliet Private Residence Club and The Registry Collection (www.threregistrycollection.com). This global exchange programme ensures access to more than 100 superior resorts in various parts of the world. Exchange is seamless and offers Dinkweng shareholders a financial hedge against future international holiday experiences. Explains Van der Merwe: “They can buy now at today’s prices and exchange later for a stay in top-flight international resorts. The cherry on top is that Zorgvliet Estate Wine is available at cellar prices to all Zorgvliet Private Residence Club members!”

He says the Dinkweng offering is just the first to be offered by Zorgvliet Private Residence Club. A number of other exclusive, five-star options are to be launched soon, each supporting the Zorgvliet Group’s vision of becoming a South African brand with an elite local and international following.
