Golf legend Ernie Els is to join the constellation of stars at the Windhoek Country Club on October 11. The world acclaimed golfer and his team have been tasked to design the Desert Star’s 18-hole Golf Course of the Stars, a central attraction to the Desert Star South destination and host of the annual golf challenge.
The challenge will be held in honour of selected charities nominated by honorary founding members of the golf course. Desert Star’s media partners will also feature prominently on the evening as well as a host of Namibia’s leading performing artists, special motion picture guests and several sports personalities. Funds generated through the auction of a Luxury Riverside Lodge by Desert Star Resort will go towards construction costs which are in excess of N$2.5 million.
Corporate Namibia will have an opportunity to show their high profile support for the project through bidding.
Experienced international auctioneer, Shaun Wantenaar, of Authentic Collections in Johannesburg will be swinging the hammer while ruthlessly searching for the highest bidder for the good of the nation.
Currently, worth N$2 billion in South Africa, Southern Africa presents one of the most popular and affordable global investments in the market. This is perhaps why, without a marketing campaign, the first 12 Desert Star Resort luxury residence units on the Orange River were almost completely sold out in less than 4 months.
The selected charities represent three vitally important issues in Namibia: the care and empowerment of those affected by HIV/AIDs, skills development and job creation.
The first beneficiary of the auction is First Lady Pohamba’s OEWOENA charity: the Organization for the Empowerment of Widow/ers and Orphans of HIV and AIDS in Namibia.
The ultimate aim of this organization is to promote the empowerment of widows/ widowers and orphans caused by HIV and AIDS and to improve their living standards by facilitating access to better nutrition, instill self-confidence through own contributions to the organization; and to improve access to basic services such as health and education.
The second benefactor is the Desert Star Film Academy, which will train aspirant filmmakers in Namibia across various disciplines from catering and set construction through to acting and producing.
The focus of the academy will be “hands on” with each visiting film having the opportunity to apprentice students. The Academy will offer a recognized qualification and provide the unique experience of working alongside a working studio and in an industry that is poised for growth.
As galaxies overcame the seemingly inevitable tendency to withdraw into themselves but rather expand into a universe of light, so too can corporate Namibia burn bright for the nation like never before on an evening that will become a landmark charity event on the Southern African and even world calendar. If you are a corporate and would like to attend the function and show your support, please call 061 302 871.
